What is a Learnathon?

Join programming industry leaders, who will share their experiences in delivering on the promises of modern IT, for a month-long learning marathon that will educate and inspire.

The idea behind Learnathon22 is to give student programmers an opportunity to explore new technologies and topics as they build on their skills. Open to all high school and CÉGEP students that have a passion for tech, it will feature dozens of workshops, spaced out during the month and each lasting between 60 and 120 minutes. During these workshops, both technical and intellectual, you’ll be exposed to a plethora of coding subjects, from iOS Indie App Development to Artificial intelligence and even Competitive Hackathon-Prep. Whether you’ve never written a line of code in your life or have an essay’s worth under your belt, there is something for everyone!

FAQ

What is a Learnathon?

Our Learnathon is a learning marathon open to all high school and CÉGEP students passionate about programming and tech. It’s a free-structured month of workshops, conferences and activities to explore the programming industry from all sides, with an emphasis on learning of course! Several workshops are held per week according to a published schedule.

I’m interested in hosting a workshop!

If you are an experienced programmer who loves hosting workshops and sharing your knowledge with others, we would love to have you at our Learnathon! Please fill out the following form. If you have any specific questions regarding the parameters of our workshops, feel free to reach out to our Community Coordinator by email or on Discord.

Do I have to attend all workshops at Learnathon22?

No, but participation in these workshops is highly encouraged as they will open your eyes to various interesting fields in the programming industry that you may not have known before (e.g. in the arts, video games, apps, websites, startups, etc.). Our most active participants on the Kurius Community Server will have a higher chance at winning prizes.

Do I need to know how to code?

No coding experience is required! In fact, this event was designed with beginner and intermediate programmers in mind! The majority of the workshops are beginner-friendly. However, there will still be harder workshops during the week for those who already have prior coding experience and we expect that motivated participants will also supplement their learning on their own.

When will applications close?

Since this is a month-long event, we will be keeping applications open until the first day of the event. Participants must apply through our form to be eligible for prizes. Apply as soon as possible though!

How much does it cost?

Nothing! The workshops are entirely free and accessible to all high school, undergraduate and CÉGEP students who have signed up for the event.

Who can apply?

If you are currently an undergraduate, high school or CÉGEP student, you are eligible to apply! However, we won’t turn away motivated undergrad participants.

How do the prizes work?

We take note of attendance at the workshops and activities throughout the event and reward the most consistent and involved participants with prizes at the end of Learnathon22. We will also give away random prizes during the month (for those who stay active in the Kurius server) and occasionally after activities.

What is the schedule?

The schedule will be posted soon! Stay up-to-date on our social media!
